Understanding NAAC Criteria for Institutional Performance

Understanding the NAAC Criteria 

The NAAC organizes its criteria into seven categories, collectively known as the Institutional Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

This category focuses on the effectiveness of the institution’s curriculum in promoting holistic education, relevance to current trends, and alignment with the needs of stakeholders. 

Teaching-Learning and Evaluation:

    Research, Innovations and Extensions: 

      This category evaluates the institution’s efforts in promoting research activities, encouraging innovation among faculty and students, and engaging in community outreach and extension programs. 

        Infrastructure and Learning Resources: 

        This category examines the adequacy and quality of physical infrastructure, such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and IT facilities, as well as the availability of learning resources to support academic programs. 

          Student Support and Progression:

          This category focuses on the institution’s initiatives to provide support services to students, such as counselling, mentoring, career guidance, and opportunities for co-curricular and extracurricular activities. It also evaluates the institution’s efforts in facilitating student progression and ensuring their overall well-being. 

            Governance, Leadership and Management: 

            This category assesses the effectiveness of the institution’s governance structures, including leadership, decision-making processes, financial management, and administrative policies and practices. 

              Institutional Values and Best Practices: 

              This category examines the institution’s commitment to ethical values, social responsibility, inclusivity, and sustainable practices. It also evaluates the adoption and implementation of best practices in various areas of institutional functioning. 


                Conclusion

                Each category further divides into a set of sub-criteria, which NAAC uses to evaluate individual institutions. NAAC rates institutions on a scale of A to C, with A being the highest rating. Institutions that achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.51 or above receive accreditation, while those with a score below 1.5 do not receive accreditation.
